Recently, other plaintiffs have tried to verdict cases against both tobacco and asbestos product manufacturers, but this case represents the first trial in Massachusetts in which a plaintiff alleged that both asbestos exposure and smoking together synergistically contributed to cause a plaintiff's injury. Posted Sep 24, 2018 MG+M Secures Defense Verdict in Cosmetic Talc Mesothelioma Trial On September 17, 2018, a Portland, OR jury delivered a defense verdict in favor of Chanel in a living pleural mesothelioma lawsuit involving a spontaneous etiology defense. The jury unanimously found that there was no defect in the cosmetic talc product used by the plaintiff between the years of 1970-1986. The jury also found that Chanel was not negligent. MG+M attorneys Chris Massenburg and Lindsay Weiss represented Chanel and local counsel support was provided by the firm Tanenbaum Keale. Plaintiff was represented by the law firm of Waters, Kraus & Paul. The judge was the Honorable Judith Matarazzo of Multnomah County, OR.
